Salmon Cobbles

We can offer the unique alternative to the traditional wooden salmon fishing cobbles, built in heavy duty GRP they have the unmistakable lines of a traditional cobble but built using modern materials.

Coulam 14 Spey Cobble

Based on a traditional Spey salmon cobble, the Coulam 14 offers authentic lines combined with modern materials.

This combination gives the looks of a traditional boat but with very strong construction, very low maintenance and meets all the latest safety requirements for this size of boat.

The GRP hull has a very thick lay-up and has extra reinforcing around the keel, stem, transom and bilge keels. A marine grade plywood floor and buoyancy tanks are fully bonded into the hull for strength. All are sealed to form an air-tight chamber that enables the boat to float with a person on board when swamped with water to operate the bilge pump. All fixings are marine grade stainless steel. Traditional Oak or Iroka Sampson posts are used to coil the anchor rope, and stainless steel fairleads are used as rope guides either side of the bow. Stainless steel thole pins are supplied and can be made to match existing oar fittings, or our own Coulam thole oar bracket arrangement can be supplied.

Protection to the hull is offered by 7 metal keel bands, each fitted to the bilge keels and to the stem. Heavy duty, non marking, D-section rubber is fitted around the whole of the boat at Gunwale height, with another 3/4 length running from the stern on plank down either side.

An adjustable height upholstered swivel seat with a back rest gives the angler the perfect fishing position for a comfortable day’s fishing. A tough anti-slip coating gives good grip under foot on the floor areas.

The Ghillie has plenty of room inside the boat to work the anchor ropes and the Mahogany thwart is set high for a good rowing position. There are also foot boards moulded into the floor to aid rowing.

Hand made Douglas Fir oars are available as an option. Again, traditional shaped square loom and stainless steel fittings give great strength for many years use.

The very strong construction, along with the quality fixtures and fittings, makes the boat a substantial 320kgs.

The boat has not only been designed for the comfort of the angler and Ghillie, but also for the operators who will appreciate the very low winter maintenance on the boat.
